Green Expresses Contrition for Past Conflict with Poole

As two seasons have passed since the infamous event where Green lashed out at Poole, Green has vocalized profound regret for the fallout.

Renowned for his outspoken nature on his podcast, Green has recounted the pre-season fracas with Poole during the 2022-23 NBA run more than once.

In a frank disclosure, he communicated intense contrition for his behavior towards Poole and its negative effects on his standing within the team.

“Last year, my sense of humiliation was intense when amongst our players, especially having Jordan Poole on our [Warriors] team. There must have been 20 different occasions when I intentionally arrived late to avoid interaction and accepted the fine associated with it,” Green confessed on The Draymond Green Show. “Such was my reluctance to face my fellow players that I engineered my schedule to prevent having to encounter them. Regardless of the circumstance, be it at our arena or away, any slight hold-up — such as a sluggish elevator — and I would be running behind schedule.”

In addition to the regret, Green lamented the sorrow stemming from his inability to share in Poole’s joy after Poole secured a long-term, prosperous contract deal with the Warriors in October 2022, shifting from mentor to rival in Poole’s eyes.

“Assisting J.P. and celebrating his milestones has been a source of great happiness for me,” Green stated. “But one of my most profound regrets as a professional basketball player was failing to partake in the jubilation of his wage increase, knowing all too well that my past misdeed tainted it, and not being able to revel in his well-deserved new deal. I’m sure he had some celebration with his close ones in San Francisco, and the fact that I couldn’t be there to enjoy those moments with him, that’s something I compromised; I spoiled it.”
