The Charlotte Hornets Ink Newcomer Bryce McGowens to a Dual Agreement
The Charlotte Hornets have secured the services of guard/wing player Bryce McGowens through a two-way deal.
Hailing from Pendleton, South Carolina, McGowens put up impressive stats during his debut season at Nebraska in 2021-22, averaging 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in 33.3 minutes of play. Standing at 6-7, the guard/forward received accolades such as All-Big Ten Third Team and Big Ten Newcomer of the Year by the media. McGowens served as the top scorer for the Cornhuskers and ranked ninth in the Big Ten, showcasing his prowess from the free-throw line with a remarkable percentage of 83.1%.
As a second-round pick at the 40th spot in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, McGowens eventually found his way to the Hornets through a trade. He set freshman records at Nebraska for total points (522) and free throws made (162), finishing third nationally among freshmen in scoring average and leading the pack in free throws made. His standout performances in Big Ten matches earned him the distinction of having the highest scoring average in conference games for a freshman since D’Angelo Russell in 2014-15. McGowens’ ability to score consistently was evident as he notched over 20 points in 11 games and became only the second freshman in Cornhuskers’ history to achieve multiple 25-point games, achieving this feat six times throughout the season.
