Dana White has been a supporter of Donald Trump for many years, stumping for the then Presidential Candidate during the 2016 election. On Sunday, the Trump campaign announced White will perform a similar role at the upcoming Republican national convention.
White will deliver his speech on the night of final day of the convention, Thursday, and will be joined by a host of other guests from outside of career politics. The others will include Patricia and Mark McCloskey, the St Louis couple who pointed guns at Black Lives Matter protestors, and Nick Sandmann, the Kentucky high school student who successfully sued the Washington Post and CNN after they published false allegations regarding an altercation between Sandmann and a Native American leader during a march in 2019.
The UFC President has made several contributions to the US President in the last nine months. White gave a $1 million donation to America First Action in November last year, and hosted Trump as his special guest at the Madison Gardens UFC event two weeks before that.
The relationship between UFC and Trump goes back to the early 2000s, when the sporting body’s reputation was ill-regarded due partly to the comments of politicians such as John McCain, who accused it of being “human cock-fighting.”
Trump allowed several early UFC events to be held at his Taj Mahal resort in Atlantic City, lending widespread credibility to the company and allowing it to grow as a business. Nearly 20 years later, he is reaping the rewards of his decision.
