Elena Nikitina of Russia managed to get a noteworthy lead post the initial move and moved on to win the initial World Cup women’s skeleton race of the season on Sunday. Nikitina ended her both trips down the ice in 1 minute, 45.12 seconds. Canada’s Elisabeth Maier came at number two in 1:45.42, and Tina Hermann of Germany was at three in 1:45.60.
The Russian skeleton racer has been a part of the national squad since 2009. However, her international involvement with the game started in 2010-11 season only. She finished her opening world championship at IgIs in the year 2012(Junior World Championship). In the event, she finished in the 8th place; though impressed everyone with her performance. Her first podium finish, however, occurred at the next Junior Worlds only, which she won in a very competitive way over Sophia Griebel. She finished at 12th position in her opening World Cup, at Konigssee in the year 2013. However, in the next week itself, she won at IgIs by staying 0.27 second ahead of Noelle Pikus-Pace. In the same month, she stayed at 15th position in her opening senior world championship at St. Mortiz.
She is quite known for her Schneider sledge ride. It’s said that there is a great hand of her coach Denis Alimov in this success. Nikitana was involved with soccer as well. She used to involve with association football prior starting with skeleton actively. German sledges managed to grab 3 of the top six spots. The Americans found it tough, except Kendall Wesenberg staying ahead ending at number 11. Wesenberg stayed in the end in the 15-sledge field post committing a mistake in her initial run, but then rallied with the seventh-fastest time in her second run.
